PP Woven Bags vs BOPP Laminated Bags — What is the Difference?

A clear comparison guide to help buyers choose the right polypropylene bag for their product, brand and budget.

The Simple Difference

Both PP woven bags and BOPP laminated bags are made from polypropylene — but they are very different in finish, appearance and purpose. A PP woven bag is a plain fabric bag made by weaving polypropylene strips together. A BOPP laminated bag is the same PP woven bag with an extra layer of BOPP film bonded on the outside surface.

That one extra layer — the BOPP film — completely changes how the bag looks, feels and performs. It gives the bag a glossy or matte finish, enables high quality multicolor printing and adds a moisture barrier on the outside.

One line summary: PP woven bags are strong and economical. BOPP laminated bags are strong plus premium looking — ideal for retail branding and export packaging.

When to Choose PP Woven Bags

PP woven bags are the right choice when you need a strong, reliable and cost-effective bag for bulk packaging where brand appearance is not the main priority.

When to Choose BOPP Laminated Bags

BOPP laminated bags are the right choice when your product needs to stand out on a retail shelf, attract buyers with strong branding or meet export quality requirements.

What About Matte vs Glossy BOPP?

Within BOPP laminated bags, you can choose between glossy and matte finish. Glossy finish gives a bright, shiny look that makes colors appear vivid and bold — popular for economy to mid-range rice brands. Matte finish gives a soft, premium feel — preferred by high-end rice brands and premium food products. Gold and silver lamination are specialty finishes used for gift or festival packaging.

Can PP Bags Be Printed?

Yes — PP woven bags can be printed in 1 to 6 colors using flexographic printing directly on the fabric. The print quality is clear and durable but does not match the high definition quality of printing on BOPP lamination. If brand appearance is important for your market, BOPP lamination is always the better choice for printing.

Tip for rice mills: Use plain PP woven bags for wholesale bulk supply to traders and BOPP laminated bags for branded retail packs sold to end consumers. This gives you the best cost efficiency across both buyer types.
